Meet an OttScot: Isobel (Izzy) Adams

Izzy Adams joined the Scottish Society of Ottawa for its sense of community and shared heritage. She loves the camaraderie, the conversations, and the feeling of belonging that comes from celebrating Scottish culture together. What she values most is the connection and camaraderie: “The events, conversations, and shared experiences create a sense of belonging that’s hard to replicate elsewhere.”

As the Society’s Membership Director, Izzy is always thinking about how to best serve members - keeping them informed, encouraging feedback, and welcoming new faces with her trademark creativity and enthusiasm. She believes there’s great potential to build more casual, social gatherings where members can connect in a relaxed way. Those moments, she says, often end up being the most meaningful.

Scotland has been part of Izzy’s life since childhood—she began Highland dancing at five, and her father, an antiquarian book dealer, filled their home with beautiful old books on Scottish history and literature. That early influence sparked a lifelong connection.

Originally from Perth County, ON, Izzy grew up in Stratford and now lives in Carleton Place, where she enjoys the town’s strong Scottish ties and its close-knit community feel. She brings her background in administration, communications, digital content, and event coordination to her role at the Carleton Place and District Chamber of Commerce.

Outside of work, Izzy loves photography and walking in the woods with her dogs. At home her Irish wolfhound, Sorcha, her husky-shepherd mix, Penny, her two adult children, and her cat, Tavish, all contribute to a lively household in which Izzy thrives.
