Concord NH: Another Perfect Kilt Skate Day

The weather patterns this winter have been…unpredictable. But for the second straight year, Concord, New Hampshire, has lucked onto the perfect day for a skate on a frozen pond.

“We had such a great day for our Kilt Skate!” reports Amy Lehman, the Program Coordinator of NHSCOT. The previous weekend, a blizzard had prevented some Montrealers from attending the kilt skate at Verdun Arena, but on February 5, the sun rose on Concord NH. “We were so fortunate with our date,” says Amy, “with an arctic blast before and then a thaw this week.”

Amy adds, “We had an even better turnout for our 2nd annual event with 50-70 skaters of all ages and abilities. Some folks also came by just to see the kilted skaters and enjoy the fun.”

“The Concord Parks & Rec partnered with us and did an incredible job getting the ice ready. We also have a warming building on site with skate rentals and a warming fire outside.”

Among the skaters were two young Highland dancers, Audrey and Emma.

Amy continues, “This year we gave out shortbread cookies, hot chocolate, coffee and Scottish flag temporary tattoos. We are already looking forward to next year!”
