Building SSO experiences in 2023-2024

There’s exciting news from the Scottish Society of Ottawa (SSO) this year. We will continue to pursue our mission of promoting Scottish culture in Canada, but our focus will widen. We want more families and younger people to get into the fun.

Our website will be updated with new branding based on the SSO logo featuring Scottish and Canadian Maple Leaf elements. The website will be easier to navigate and our Hogman-eh! event will be prominently featured. There will be a membership new section and we’re building up information on Scottish history and events happening in Canada and Scotland.

Once again, we’ll be holding our own unique Burns Supper and enjoying the outdoors with the Great Canadian Kilt Skate in 12 cities across Canada and the United States. You’ll see other Scottish themed events such as Kilt up and Kurl, Gaelic lessons, and next summer you’ll find us at Highland games and festivals. See the Summer Fun article for a taste of the 2023 games!

Our newsletter updates will feature a new format and additional great content. Our social media and event marketing will be expanded. We had one person posting last year and will have seven or more contributing this year. See the article related to social media. New graphics and appealing posts and stories will be featured.

Our team has also expanded. With years of experience in public relations and media, Nujma Bond will continue to excel as our Newsletter editor. Sara Francis has joined us with lots of experience in not-for-profit marketing and communications. Patrick MacDonald will help with branding and graphics. Our Youth/Young Adult Director Patrick Dionne-Kuno will help us with social media. Several others will assist in driving content. There is always room for more on our new team to contribute their special skills and talents – want to help out too? Come join us!

Looking forward to a fun and exciting year ahead.
