Randy Waugh is best known within the SSO for his Gaelic language workshops and for helping out with Hogman-Eh! in the past. His ancestors include Gaels from the Isles of Islay and Tiree, and Scots from South Queensferry, Cramond and area. His musical family tree includes his father who played traditional music professionally, and he describes how his family had regular ceilidhs at home in the company of many musicians and friends.
Randy’s artistic side has made its way into his broad history of work, with too many accomplishments to name! They include being the creator and Director of the Ottawa Gaelic Society, playing in an award- winning Celtic rock band with five albums, and writing novels.
Currently a part time professor of Gaelic language and culture with the University of Ottawa’s Celtic Studies program, his educational background includes attending a Gaelic university with all Gaelic classes. Randy intends to keep the language alive! As he puts it: “If I have influenced even one person to turn towards reconnecting with their culture then I can travel from this life in peace.”
For further interest in his work, here’s an interview he did with BBC Radio recently.
