Celebrate St. Andrew’s Day and Scottish heritage

  • Ottawa City Hall 110 Laurier Ave W, Ottawa, ON K1P 1J1 Ottawa Canada (map)

Come out on November 30 to celebrate St. Andrew’s Day and your Scottish heritage! St. Andrew is Scotland's patron saint and on this day, Canadians celebrate this day each year along with the rest of the world.

We will be welcoming you again to a flag-raising ceremony at Ottawa City Hall on Saturday, November 30th at noon. In the event of unbearable weather - even for Scottish-Canadians! - the event will be moved inside to the main floor of City Hall with appropriate signage to direct you.

The ceremony will include remarks from the Scottish and Canadian governments and pipers from the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. We will then head to nearby Deacon Brodies pub at 247 Elgin for some music, drinks, complimentary snacks and celebration. Come join us!

St. Andrew is Scotland’s patron saint and each year on November 30, Canadians celebrate St. Andrew’s Day, along with the rest of the world.

In 2021, Ontario enacted Bill 208, which further proclaimed November 30 as Scottish Heritage Day in the province. The initiative arose thanks to a successful Private Members Bill proposed by former MPP Jim McDonell from Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry. The Scottish Society of Ottawa (SSO) gave written support to the effort.
