Born and raised in Ottawa with a strong Scottish upbringing, Kayleigh has been immersed in the world of Highland dancing from an early age. Growing up in a family of Highland dancers, she had the privilege of being instructed by her mother, Gillian Macdonald, and her aunt, Donna Jean Macdonald. This rich family tradition laid the foundation for Kayleigh's successful career in Highland dancing.
Kayleigh is a proud, professional member of the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance, ScotDance Canada, ScotDance Ontario, and The Ottawa Highland Dancing Association. Her dedication to the dancing community is evident through her active participation in these organizations.
As co-director of the Macdonald Highland Dancers alongside her mother, Kayleigh continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of dancers. She is also a co-founder and principal dancer of Change of Step Highland Dance Company, and a co-founder of Reel Ottawa Dance Company, a prominent local large-scale performing group. Additionally, she serves as the Lead dancer of the Ottawa Police Service Pipes and Drums.
Kayleigh's achievements in Highland dancing are numerous, with championship titles across Canada, the USA, and Scotland, including Provincial and National Champion. Her talent has taken her to prestigious stages worldwide, performing in several military tattoos, including the renowned Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland and The Basel Tattoo in Switzerland.
Kayleigh and her husband, who hails from Northern Ireland, travel overseas frequently, instilling a deep appreciation for their heritage in their three young boys.
In recent years, Kayleigh has played a significant role in the local cultural scene, overseeing the GreatScot! KidZone at the SSO Hogman-eh celebrations and performing at numerous other SSO events. She had the honor of toasting the Laddies in 2023 at the SSO Robbie Burns’ dinner, showcasing her versatility and passion for her Scottish heritage.
Beyond performing, Kayleigh has been instrumental in planning various events, including ceilidhs, showcases, live entertainment, and celebrations. Her commitment to Highland dancing and her cultural heritage continues to leave a lasting impact on the community.
