Hogmanay Volunteer Tasks

All volunteers will have free access to the event and most shifts will be 2-3 hours in duration. Some tasks will require standing for the entire shift.

Setup Crew

Assist in setting up tables, chairs, banners etc. the afternoon of the event. Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs.

Door staffing

Main entrance door to verify pre-paid tickets, and sell tickets. This will involve interacting with the public, sitting for several hours, and using a mobile tap pay system (we are cashless this year).

hospitality

Support event cleanliness by clearing beer cups, dinner plates, and other items from tables throughout the evening.

BAr assistance

Assist the bar staff by restocking refrigerators and supplies. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

COAT CHECk

Receive guests’ winter coats, hang them on rolling racks, and provide claim tags. Volunteers will also attach duplicate tags to coats for easy retrieval at the end of the night.

FOOD SERVICE SUPPORt

Assist the kitchen professionals as needed with food preparation, plating, and service.

alcohol TRANSPORTATION

Volunteers with a truck or SUV will pick up liquor from designated LCBO and Beer Store locations prior to the event and transport it to the hall. After the event, volunteers will return any unused product on January 2nd.

PHOTOGRAPHER

Capture photos of the event. Previous photography experience required; volunteers must bring their own equipment.

STAGE MANAGER

Oversee stage scheduling and coordination. Strong organizational skills, assertiveness, and experience in the music industry would be highly valuable.

BALLOON DROP ENGINEER

Design and set up the balloon net for timed drops at 7:00 PM and midnight. Responsible for ensuring balloons are released on cue. Creativity and basic engineering or set design skills are an asset.

SOUND & BAND LOAD-IN / LOAD-OUT

Assist with unloading the sound and lighting equipment from the truck earlier in the day and help with setup. Volunteers will also assist with loading equipment back onto the truck at the end of the night.

Scottish Society Booth

Assist SSO Directors by staffing the Scottish Booth answering questions about the event and the society, and signing up new members
