Call for volunteers!

The Scottish Society of Ottawa (SSO) exists to connect, preserve, and promote Scottish culture and heritage regionally, nationally, and internationally through events, communications, and education. We currently have 6 vacant director positions on the board that we are looking to fill. Not Scottish? No problem – we welcome volunteers from any background with a keen interest in Scottish culture. We are inclusive, passionate, creative, and resilient and work with integrity. And we are a lot of fun!

The SSO’s Board of Directors meets monthly as a group and additionally the directors serve on other committees such as Finance, Hogman!-eh, Communications and others.

 The Board needs members who are:

  • Committed to the long-term success of the SSO as we fulfil our values and mission.

  • Willing to share their time, expertise, and skills.

  • Representatives of diverse backgrounds and cultures.

  • Team players with excellent communication skills who are engaged and enthusiastic about Scottish culture in Ottawa.

  • Ready and able to serve as internal and external ambassadors.

 

Board Directors are expected to:

  • Be a paid member in good standing.

  • Commit to a two-year term.

  • Be prepared to work in addition to providing leadership.

  • Attend regular SSO meetings and social events on a regular basis.

  • Support the SSO efforts to raise funds to sustain the organization and events.

  • Hogman-eh! Director

  • Development Director

  • Director at Large

  • Treasurer

  • Secretary

Commitee Members:

  • Communications Committee (webmaster SquareSpace platform, social media manager, newsletter editor)

  • Hogman-eh! Commitee

  • Gala Burns Supper Committee

  • OttScot Festival Commitee
