The Scottish Society of Ottawa Celebrates National Volunteer Week (April 18-24, 2021)
The National Volunteer Week theme for 2021, ‘The Value of One, The Power of Many’, reflects on the awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals and the magic that happens when we work together towards a common purpose.
Ironically 2021 is also the 20th Anniversary of the UN Declaration of the Year of the Volunteer. Like everyone else this past year, the SSO has had to adapt to the changing circumstances caused by the pandemic. Despite the challenges, with the help of our awesome volunteers, from Directors to deliverers, we were able to provide virtual Hogmaneh!, Whisky Tastings and Burns Dinner Celebrations. As well, we have had a phenomenally successful At Home Addition of the Great Canadian Kilt Skate. Amongst our members the SSO has 344 registered volunteers. As we move beyond the pandemic we’ll be able to reengage with this enthusiastic group and continue to celebrate Scottish culture.
The SSO Committee has a great team of volunteers including:
Jane Torrance: Chair
Heather Theoret: Vice Chair
Sherry Sharpe: Treasurer
Fionna Morrison: Secretary
Christine Guay: Communications Director
Elizabeth MacLeod: Membership Director
Dave Johnston: Volunteer Director
Andrea MacLeod: Development Funds Director
Wayne MacDonald: Director at Large
Emmitt Hossack: Whisky Tasting
Don Cummer: Kilt Skate Director
